One of the first things I check when I turn on my computer is this site, Astronomy Picture of the Day, from NASA. The above picture is amazing; it’s not a supernova, but rather a “light echo.” For a short time in 2002 it was the brightest object in the entire Milky Way galaxy. You’ll have to check the site for specifics and a much bigger picture. By the time you read this it may have changed. Just check the archive to find Light Echoes.Photo: NASA
