From 1857, a picture of a man who’s either hiding something unattractive, or thinks wearing a cap so jauntily will attract a gorgeous woman. This photo, known as a salt print, is quite rare, and is for sale on eBay for $450. I asked my sister if this guy is in our family, but she couldn’t make a connection. One curious thing about this photo is the letter X. All the penmanship is flourish-y except for that letter, which may be all the subject was capable of writing.
